Pediatric Orthopedics
Fractures, sports injuries, and developmental orthopedic conditions in children and adolescents, treated with a gentle, family-centered approach.
Our specialty-trained doctors evaluate, diagnose, and treat the full range of pediatric orthopedics conditions and injuries — always starting with the most conservative effective option, and offering advanced surgical care when it's needed.
Care is available at both our Torrington and Bristol offices, with on-site X-ray, physical and occupational therapy, and many procedures performed at the Litchfield Hills Surgery Center.
Common conditions we treat
- Fractures in children — kids' bones break differently than adults' — and growth plates need special attention
- Sports injuries in young athletes — sprains, strains, and overuse injuries in developing bodies
- Growth-plate injuries — damage near the growing ends of bones that can affect future growth if missed
- Gait and alignment concerns — in-toeing, out-toeing, and leg-length questions parents notice
- Scoliosis screening and monitoring — curvature checks during growth years
How we treat them
Treatment always starts with the most conservative effective option. Depending on your condition, your plan may include:
- Gentle, family-centered evaluation — we explain everything to the parent and the child
- Casting and bracing designed for growing bones
- Surgery only when truly necessary, using techniques that protect growth
- Return-to-play guidance for student athletes
When to see a doctor
Children rarely exaggerate persistent pain. A limp without explanation, pain that wakes a child at night, any injury near a joint, or a visible curve or asymmetry should be checked — growing bones forgive a lot, but some problems are only fixable while growth remains.
