Neck
Neck pain, cervical disc problems, pinched nerves, and whiplash-type injuries — evaluated and treated by our spine team, from conservative care and therapy through advanced cervical procedures.
Our specialty-trained doctors evaluate, diagnose, and treat the full range of neck conditions and injuries — always starting with the most conservative effective option, and offering advanced surgical care when it's needed.
Care is available at both our Torrington and Bristol offices, with on-site X-ray, physical and occupational therapy, and many procedures performed at the Litchfield Hills Surgery Center.
Common conditions we treat
- Neck strain and whiplash — muscle and ligament injuries from sudden movement, poor posture, or accidents
- Cervical disc herniation — a disc in the neck pressing on a nerve, often causing pain, numbness, or tingling down the arm
- Cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve) — nerve irritation causing shooting pain, weakness, or numbness in the shoulder, arm, or hand
- Cervical stenosis — narrowing of the spinal canal in the neck that can affect balance, coordination, and hand function
- Arthritis of the neck — age-related wear of the joints and discs causing stiffness and chronic ache
How we treat them
Treatment always starts with the most conservative effective option. Depending on your condition, your plan may include:
- Physical therapy to restore motion and strengthen supporting muscles
- Anti-inflammatory medication and activity modification
- Targeted injections to calm inflamed nerves
- Advanced surgical options — including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures — when conservative care isn't enough
When to see a doctor
See a doctor promptly if neck pain follows an accident or fall, radiates into your arm or hand, comes with numbness or weakness, or hasn't improved after a couple of weeks of rest. Sudden loss of coordination or balance warrants immediate evaluation.
