Knee
ACL and meniscus injuries, arthritis, and fractures — treated with sports medicine care, arthroscopy, and partial or total knee replacement.
Our specialty-trained doctors evaluate, diagnose, and treat the full range of knee conditions and injuries — always starting with the most conservative effective option, and offering advanced surgical care when it's needed.
Care is available at both our Torrington and Bristol offices, with on-site X-ray, physical and occupational therapy, and many procedures performed at the Litchfield Hills Surgery Center.
Common conditions we treat
- Meniscus tears — injury to the knee's shock-absorbing cartilage, causing catching, locking, or swelling
- ACL and ligament injuries — tears that cause the knee to give way, common in cutting and pivoting sports
- Knee arthritis — cartilage wear causing pain with stairs, swelling, and stiffness
- Patellofemoral pain — pain around the kneecap, often from alignment and muscle-balance issues
- Knee fractures — breaks involving the kneecap or the bones around the joint
How we treat them
Treatment always starts with the most conservative effective option. Depending on your condition, your plan may include:
- Physical therapy — the foundation of nearly all knee care
- Bracing, activity modification, and injections
- Knee arthroscopy for meniscus and ligament injuries, including ACL reconstruction
- Partial and total knee replacement when arthritis no longer responds to conservative care
When to see a doctor
See us for a knee that locks, gives way, swells after activity, or hurts enough to change how you walk. A pop at the moment of injury followed by rapid swelling suggests a ligament tear that benefits from early evaluation.
