Elbow
Tennis elbow, ligament injuries, fractures, and arthritis, with both non-surgical and surgical options tailored to how you use your arm at work and at play.
Our specialty-trained doctors evaluate, diagnose, and treat the full range of elbow conditions and injuries — always starting with the most conservative effective option, and offering advanced surgical care when it's needed.
Care is available at both our Torrington and Bristol offices, with on-site X-ray, physical and occupational therapy, and many procedures performed at the Litchfield Hills Surgery Center.
Common conditions we treat
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) — tendon irritation on the outside of the elbow from repetitive gripping — you don't have to play tennis to get it
- Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) — the same problem on the inner elbow
- Elbow fractures — breaks involving the radial head, olecranon, or distal humerus
- Ligament injuries — sprains and tears from throwing sports or falls
- Cubital tunnel syndrome — compression of the ulnar nerve — the 'funny bone' nerve — causing ring and small finger numbness
- Elbow arthritis — wear or post-injury changes causing stiffness and pain
How we treat them
Treatment always starts with the most conservative effective option. Depending on your condition, your plan may include:
- Activity modification, bracing, and therapy — most tendon problems resolve without surgery
- Injections when conservative care stalls
- Fracture care, from casting to surgical fixation
- Surgical release or repair for nerve compression and ligament injuries
When to see a doctor
Persistent elbow pain that interferes with gripping, lifting, or sleep deserves evaluation, as does any elbow injury with visible deformity, inability to straighten the arm, or numbness in the fingers.
